Questions and Answers with Ann
This Week’s Q&A
I am switching to homeschooling in a few weeks, but I have no idea where or how to start. Can you give me some advice?
I get this question often. Since it’s close to back to school time, it’s the perfect time to answer this as a resource for anyone considering homeschooling.
The best advice for families coming from “school life” that are new to homeschooling is to take the time to “deschool” for several months. This is a great time of year to begin the process. If you left public school last May/June begin the school year VERY slowly with fun, interest based learning, out of doors adventures, fine arts and field trips. Those who don’t heed this advice soon find themselves overwhelmed and their children begging to go back to school. Buy the book, Deschooling Gently by Tammy Takahashi, linked on the Deschooling page. Discover the best way to educate your children at home not through rote process, but by learning how to find the answer within yourself.
Check out my website for help on beginning to homeschool. There is a lot of help there for you. You CAN do this – Good luck!
