Heritage of Oklahoma

Oklahoma Field Trips to Learn History
by Francis L Fugate
Roadside History of Oklahoma invites tourists and residents alike to use the state’s highways as avenues connecting the present with the past. Drive along the stage route used by the Butterfield Overland Mail, or follow the Chisholm Trail as the first cowboys did after the Civil War when they drove cattle to railheads in Kansas, or cross the state on “America’s Main Street,” Route 66.

Chisholm Trail Heritage Center
We host educational classes at our facility. The target grades are 3rd, 4th and 5th, though we host younger students, older students and adults. Our museum and education programs are the only ones of their kind in southern Oklahoma. We have a program for 2nd graders offered year-round. Public, private and homeschool teachers are encouraged to book their dates early, as popular sessions often fill at the beginning of the year.

Guthrie’s Historic District
A great way to see Guthrie’s Historic District is on the Trolley, a 45-minute, tape-narrated tour. Board at corner of Second Street and Harrison Avenue, in front of the historic State Capital Printing Company building.

Oklahoma Heritage Association
Via high-tech, interactive exhibits meet famous Oklahomans like Will Rogers, Reba McEntire and Shannon Miller who have helped make our state what it is today. Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum. 1400 Classen Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73106. (888) 501-2059.

Keepsake Candles
Keepsake Candles has been Oklahoma’s premier candle maker since 1969. What began in our kitchen as a church fundraiser is now a nationally-known brand of beautiful candles and gifts. We invite you to visit our gift shop and the on-site factory. We are located 2 miles west of Bartlesville on US Highway 60. Our physical address is 263 CR 3022, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
