Musicians, other than singers, who are currently homeschooling or who were homeschooled in the recent past, are included in this page. Homeschooling allows children to take extra time in areas which interest them.
Billy Contreras, Violinist
Billy Contreras is widely regarded as one of the foremost improvising violinists of his generation. Versed in wide ranging musical styles, at ease on multiple instruments, Billy has been described by violinist Christian Howes as “the most amazing jazz violinist ever…Not only is his facility amazing, but his deep understanding of harmony and the language of music, as well as his endless imagination…I could fill a book with ramblings about how amazing Billy Contreras is.”
The Hanson band consists of three brothers that got an early introduction to music in their hometown of Tulsa, OK. They are Clarke Issac (born in 1980), Jordan Taylor (1983), and Zachary Walker Hanson (1985). But of course if you were a teenage girl back when they became singing sensations you might remember them as Ike, Tay, and Zac.
Joanna MacGregor, pianist
Unconventinal pianist who has hit the classical music scene like the proverbial whirlwind. The eclecticism predates her formal musical studies. She and her two siblings were educated at home until they were 11 years old.
Josh Layne, Harpist
Josh is an exciting young musician who has recorded and produced 3 solo CDs. He performs as both a recitalist and an orchestral soloist. He began playing the harp at age 13. Because he was learning at home, he had time to develop his skills as a musician.
The Jonas Brothers
The Jonas Brothers band is an incredibly popular trio of three homeschooled brothers: Paul (Kevin) Jonas, 21, Joseph (Joe) Jonas, 19, and Nicholas (Nick) Jonas, 16. The Jonas Brothers grew up in a home where music was a large part of everyday life.

Paskowitz, Rock Group “The Flys”
Paskowitz’ diverse interests … reflect something of his eclectic education, having been home schooled with his sister and seven brothers. “We didn’t have organized home schooling, it was more like we assimilated from our environment,” he says.
