Hi, I’m Andrea, A2Z’s voice and content manager.
I am a homeschooling mom of two that never really intended to homeschool. Before I began, my frame of mind was that homeschooling was not for me. Like a lot of folks, I thought of homeschoolers as, well, weird. I went to public school all my life and really didn’t understand homeschooling. As I got older, I wanted to teach and initially went to school to become a public school teacher. I received a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education in 2007 and then my master’s degree in early education in 2010. I taught for a bit until I had my son and decided to stay at home with him. I had full intentions of returning to teach school when he went off to kindergarten but found I just couldn’t send him away to be one of 30 in a classroom, especially knowing what it was like to be the teacher in those rooms. I knew I could teach him at home and looked more into school options. I met a few local homeschoolers and learned more about what homeschooling really was and what it could be for my child and me. I decided to try homeschooling for a year to see if we liked it and if it worked for us. That year turned to two and before I knew it, I was many years into homeschooling my now two children.
I have officially been homeschooling since the fall of 2014. However, I realized early on that we had been living as homeschoolers since my children had been born. We had always tackled educational topics together, explored the things my children were interested in, and read aloud often. Nothing much changed for us, except for growth in our love of learning together and on our own terms.
In 2017, I started working on A2Z and began by focusing on social media for the site. Quickly I found that I had a passion for — and wealth of information on — homeschooling that I was eager to share. When Ann Zeise decided to retire, I took over as content manager. Now I am here to help by sharing homeschool tips, resources, and general homeschool information. If you’re just starting homeschool, in the middle of homeschooling, finishing up, or just curious about homeschooling.
